Hes Not Crying: Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith Laugh at Viral Entanglement Meme

Publish date: 2024-06-08

Will Smith and Jada PinkettSmith prove that they can laugh through the good, bad, and the “entanglement” memes.

A few months ago, the veteran Hollywood couple made headlines after news broke that Jada had had a brief romance with R&B singer August Alsina. Details surrounding their relationship were private until the “Kissin’ On My Tattoos” singer went public about their time together.

During a rare candid discussion on “Red Table Talk,” the pair revealed what led to Jada and August’s relationship, which she described as an entanglement. Jada and Will also explained that the relationship occurred when she and her husband decided to take a break from their marriage. After Jada used the word “entanglement,” thousands of memes were created, including one that looked as if Will was teary-eyed during their “Red Table” discussion.

This week a video clip surfaced of the couple joking about that moment and the memes that followed. The “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star couldn’t contain himself over the thought that fans believed he was crying but appreciated the fact that people were so sympathetic toward him. “They love themselves some Will,” as he was heard saying in the video posted on Oct. 6.

Will revealed that he had not been crying in the “Red Table Talk” episode but was just tired because they had been filming so late in the evening. Although they had discussed re-recording the episode, they went forward with the late-night footage. Between laughs, the Smiths assured everyone that Will was OK.

Interestingly, the clip appeared to have taken place on the same day Will and his whole family, Trey, Willow, and Jaden, who appeared via cellphone as he was awaiting COVID-19 test results, was honored with the Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter Award. The award was established in honor of the late actor after his suicide on Aug. 11, 2014, at the age of 63 after suffering from Lewy body dementia, a type of brain disease that affects cognition, memory, and movement control.

“There’s been a lot of laughter in this house because of Robin Williams,” Will said on Oct. 5 as the family reflected on Williams’ most iconic acting roles, including, “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Jumanji,” “Flubber,” and “Mork & Mindy.” He added, “Robin Williams was an absolute master at human connection. He wanted you to laugh. It’s almost like he needed you to laugh, and however brief the moment was, he was always scanning for what is the interaction that the two of you could have that would be memorable and magical.”
