Maui Humane Society appeals for support for displaced animals | News, Sports, Jobs
The Maui Humane Society is urgently seeking aid as it takes in animals who have been injured or displaced by the Maui fires.
The shelter is requesting help via:
• SOS fosters: Prior to the fires, the kennels had reached full capacity, so the shelter is seeking “SOS fosters.” Any resident who has secure space is invited to volunteer to become an SOS foster.
• Donations: Pet food, pop-up kennels, litter and other supplies are needed and can be dropped off directly at the shelter. Monetary donations also can be made at www.mauihumanesociety.org/donate-olx and supplies can be delivered directly to the shelter via its Amazon wish list at www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1817BTQ5MWOOG?ref_=wl_share.
• Maui Fires Pets Facebook Group: A mutual help Facebook group has been created as a platform for individuals who are able to help to connect with those in need, without straining the resources at the shelter. For more, see facebook.com/groups/mauifirespets.
Maui Humane Society is currently open with limited, emergency-only services from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 1350 Mehameha Loop in Puunene.
Humane enforcement officers can be contacted 24/7 by calling (808) 877-3680, ext. 222. Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation has also publicly announced that they are taking owned animals for temporary housing.
