Multiple shot along Maryland roadway, circumstances around shooting unclear: Sources
BLADENSBURG, Md. (WJLA) — Five people are hospitalized and three of them are in critical condition after a shooting near Annapolis Road in Bladensburg, Maryland.
Chief Tyrone Collington said the victims were riding in a car after leaving a funeral and were approached by another vehicle that fired shots at them. The chief believes members of the shooting vehicle were also at the funeral.
"This is uncommon in this community we have an obligation to protect our residents at all costs and this was an unnecessary senseless act of violence that involved individuals discharging firearms in our community as a result multiple people were injured," said Collington.
All of the victims were transported to local hospitals, Chief Collington said. Three of the victims are in critical condition, sources said.
As of 12:45 p.m., the area of Annapolis Road and Bladensburg Road is closed due to the investigation.
The circumstances of the shooting remain unclear.
Authorities are expected to provide a media briefing at 3 p.m. Eastern.
