Thomas Palfrey is an American economist and political scientist. He is currently the John D. MacArthur Professor of Economics and Political Science at the California Institute of Technology. He was born in 1953 in New York City. Palfrey received his B.A. from Harvard University in 1975 and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1979. He has held faculty positions at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Michigan. Palfrey's research focuses on game theory, experimental economics, and political economy. He has published numerous books and articles on these topics, including the books "Game Theory and Political Theory" (Cambridge University Press, 1992) and "An Introduction to Game Theory" (Oxford University Press, 2004). Palfrey is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has received numerous awards, including the John Bates Clark Medal in 1992 and the Erwin Plein Nemmers Prize in Economics in 2006.
