Unretiring Right After USADAs Exit, Real Reason Behind Jorge MasvidalsRetirement Exposed in C
Former UFC BMF champion Jorge Masvidal recently teased coming out of retirement. There is no word on when or where he will make his comeback yet. Meanwhile, a resurfaced clip from 2023 showed that his former friend-turned-bitter rival Colby Covington was already aware of ‘Gamebred’s plans of returning to fight once again.
Jorge Masvidal had his last fight at UFC 287, where he lost to Gilbert Burns. Thereafter, he refrained from going to the drawing board and instead mentioned his plans to help other fighters. However, the news of Masvidal’s probable comeback has made waves in the MMA world as a resurfaced video of Colby Covington about his comeback came to the fore. Let’s see what ‘Chaos’ had to say.
Colby Coving claimed Jorge Masvidal’s retirement in 2022 was “fake”
Back in April 2023, Colby Covington addressed his rival Jorge Masvidal’s retirement news and gave his take on the situation. He claimed that ‘Gamebred’ changed after fighting him in 2022. He was not the same fighter as he was before and fought in his last fight to earn a bag. Covington said, “He hasn’t been the same. I took away his confidence and his ego and, you know, he hasn’t been the same fighter. He just showed up for a paycheck for his last fight.”
However, the former interim welterweight champion claimed that Jorge Masvidal was faking his retirement. Like many fighters in the past, Colby Covington claimed that ‘Gamebred’ would probably make his return after getting out of the USADA‘s testing pool, which is now apparent as the UFC now has started their partnership with Drug Free Sport International.

“It’s a fake retirement. We all know people in the UFC, they’ll retire, they’ll get out of the USADA pool [and] probably go do some steroids and come back,” ‘Chaos’ added. Furthermore, Covington continued to take shots at the former BMF, claiming that Masvidal had no other way to earn a living. Let’s dive into that aspect of his statement about his former friend’s retirement in 2023.
‘Chaos’ claims fighting is the only thing Masvidal knew
As always, Colby Covington appeared critical of Jorge Masvidal’s chances of earning a living through any either profession. ‘Gamebred’ has been a fighter for most of his life, with an MMA career that spanned 20 years. Covington further stated, “He [Masvidal] doesn’t know how to make money any other way but fighting. He’s not really retired. That guy is dumber and f***ed in the head… I can guarantee he’ll be back to get another paycheck.”
When ‘Chaos’ was asked if he would fight Jorge Masvidal in a rematch, he replied positively, claiming that he would easily defeat him. Moreover, Covington believes that the only way ‘Gamebred’ could beat him was if he sneaked and attacked him like he did in Miami. “[I will fight him] anywhere he wants to fight, man. It’s easy money. The only way he’s gonna beat me is if he runs behind me and hides in the bushes and hits me in the back of the head,” the former interim champion added.
Jorge Masvidal has only announced that he’s coming out of retirement. However, we still don’t know if it’s the UFC that he plans to return to or if it is any other combat sports discipline like boxing or even bare knuckle. We will have to wait for further developments on this regard to see where Masvidal ends up making his comeback.
